 The Concept/Goal:

(Capstone)

 

Relish’s concept is to position itself as the modern eco-conscious network, serving as the Canadian authority on contemporary urban living for individuals who are both fashion-forward and environmentally responsible. It covers a wide range of lifestyle topics: food, beauty, fashion, design, travel, entertaining and home. All with a focus on sustainable living without compromising style. Relish’s content, primarily video-based, aims to showcase modern living through a lens of stylish environmental responsibility. The project involves developing a creative and cohesive visual brand identity that encompasses logo design, colour schemes, layout, typography, and animation. In addition, Relish seeks marketing and communication strategies, including designs for merchandise, a user-friendly website, and engaging social media presence. They also require art direction and rebranding for one of their feature shows to ensure consistency and alignment with the network’s eco-conscious and modern ethos. Relish’s goal is to create a brand that resonates with their forward-thinking audience while reflecting their commitment to both style and sustainability.

The Problem:  

The problem that needs to be solved with creating the Brand Identity and Art Direction for Relish is how to effectively merge the concepts of modern, stylish living with environmental responsibility in a way that appeals to their target audience. The challenge was to create a visual identity that communicates Relish’s eco-conscious values while maintaining an aspirational and fashion-forward image. This requires balancing the brand’s forward-thinking, urban lifestyle focus with a sense of environmental stewardship, ensuring that the design elements—such as the logo, typography, colour palette, and marketing materials—are both trendy and sustainable. Additionally, the rebranding of Relish’s feature show must align with this new identity, further reinforcing their message that living sustainably doesn't mean sacrificing style or quality.

The Solution:  

 

After focusing on what makes the essence of the Relish Network, I developed a brand identity that perfectly balances sophistication, sustainability, and joy. The identity concept celebrates a stylish, eco-conscious lifestyle appealing to an audience that values both refinement and environmental responsibility. The visual voice of Relish is elegant yet vibrant, with a focus on creating a dynamic and engaging presence across all platforms—whether through the website, social media, or marketing materials. By combining refined aesthetics with eco-conscious messaging, I created a cohesive and compelling identity that resonates with those who appreciate the finer things in life without compromising their environmental values. Using elegant design, high-quality content, and visually sophisticated approach ensured that Relish would inspire its audience through aligning the principles of beauty, sustainability, and celebration into a unified experience. The finished brand identity not only conveys Relish’s core values but also creates a powerful emotional connection with its eco-conscious, fashion-forward audience.

These reels engage the audience with practical advice, encouraging them to embrace the Relish lifestyle. Instagram stories capture the essence of people-centric fashion by showcasing behind-the-scenes moments of a fashion show and creative brainstorming sessions at the Relish network. Highlighting the use of eco-friendly materials and products, these stories demonstrate the hard work and creativity involved in bringing sustainable fashion to the runway, aligning with Relish’s values of style and sustainability. Additionally, text-based posts feature quotes and messages about champagne moments with friends, travel tips, and fun facts about fashion. These posts celebrate stylish living and sustainability, creating a well-rounded storytelling approach that engages and educates the audience while promoting a lifestyle that resonates with the Relish brand identity.

The Relish microsite is designed to be a comprehensive hub for diverse stories and top-tier lifestyle programming, positioning itself as a premier destination for advertisers

With the tagline "Indulge in Diverse Stories with Relish, all in one place," the site highlights Relish’s unique offerings, including the best first-run lifestyle programming in Canada and custom-designed, multi-platform campaigns. The website (Relish.com) and associated social media platforms serve as a go-to destination for engaging stories, practical tips, and exciting contests, providing unique brand integration opportunities. The site is strategically crafted as a sales tool, aimed at attracting advertisers by showcasing Relish's distinctive media solutions and brand opportunities. Complemented by the terracotta accents, the primary colours of dark green and beige create a cohesive and appealing visual identity while the Avenir Next typeface ensures consistency with the brand guide. Photos featured on the site maintain Relish’s colour palette reinforcing the brand's aesthetic and values.

Merchandise

The merchandising for the Relish network includes a variety of elegant and sophisticated items such as handcrafted marble candles, wood and marble coasters, custom-designed cutting boards, and sleek business cards. Each piece reflects the brand’s focus on quality, style, and sustainability, seamlessly blending luxury with eco-friendly materials to enhance the Relish experience and brand identity.

Natural marble candles exude luxury and sophistication, reflecting Relish’s commitment to quality and refined aesthetics. Made from genuine marble blocks, each candle is carefully carved by skilled artisans, with the natural veins and patterns making each piece unique. The candles are polished to perfection, enhancing their beauty and offering tactile and visual appeal. This resonates with Relish’s goal of creating an emotional and sensory connection with its audience. Partnering with the small Etsy shop "Marble Art Gift Store," which specializes in handcrafted, one-of-a-kind candles, enhances Relish’s image of offering personalized and thoughtful products.

Resonating with Relish’s goal to awaken the senses and connect with its audience, the rich, warm tones of natural grain and smooth, polished wood texture, the acacia wood cutting board evokes a tactile, sensory experience of warmth, comfort, and luxury. Its visual appeal fits seamlessly into stylish kitchens and dining environments, complementing Relish’s focus on creating beautiful and sophisticated spaces as well as extending the Relish brand into consumers’ everyday lives, creating more touchpoints for interaction and brand recall. Also, collaborating with the women-run Etsy shop "Love and Luxe Handmade," emphasizes Relish’s commitment to community and supporting small businesses.

Wood and marble coasters embody elegance and sophistication suggesting a high-end, curated lifestyle–central to the Relish brand. Partnering with a small Etsy shop called Dreaming Studio Co., a women-run business, that creates a personal touch on all the little details, emphasises the brand’s support for artisanal craftsmanship and unique, high-quality products. Custom engraving of the Relish logo adds a personal and exclusive touch to the merchandise, making each coaster set feel unique and special, further enhancing the brand’s image of providing personalised and thoughtful products. The logo serves as a constant reminder of the brand’s identity and values, reinforcing brand loyalty among consumers.

The business card’s clean and modern design, featuring only the word mark, icon, and a few strategically placed bubble balls perfectly aligns with Relish’s brand identity of simplicity and sophistication, avoiding clutter, while emphasizing key brand elements. The design mirrors Relish’s commitment to stylish and sustainable living, demonstrating that a conscientious lifestyle doesn’t require compromising on aesthetics. The business card enhances brand recognition, conveys professionalism, and creates an emotional connection with its audience.
